SAFETY in alpine resorts

In Beitostølen Ski Center (the ski lifts in Beitostølen and Raudalen) we focus on safety and it is important that you as guests take responsibility for both yourself and others.

‼️⚠️‼️⚠️‼️

HERE ARE OUR RULES
that also apply to the national and international alpine industry:

  1. Wear a helmet! You only have one valuable head.
  2. All travel outside marked, secured and groomed trails is at your own risk
  3. Alpine skiing is associated with a certain risk. Drugs and skiing do not go together. Violation of the alpine weather rules may result in expulsion from the facility.
  4. It is forbidden to stay in the alpine resort outside opening hours. This can cause danger to life as construction work with snow production and preparation is in progress.

RULES AND SKIER`S KNOW-HOW:

  • RESPONSIBILITY TO AVOID INJURY
You must behave in such a way that you are not a danger to yourself or others. You must have the necessary control of your skis and snowboard equipment at all times. You are responsible for preventing the equipment from causing damage to people or other material.
  • DUTY TO
GIVE WAY The person approaching from behind is responsible for driving in such a way that one does not expose others to a collision.
  • ADJUST YOUR SPEED ACCORDING TO THE CONDITIONS
You must drive in a controlled manner and adjust your speed and driving style according to your skill, terrain, weather, road conditions and traffic
  • PASSING AND PASSING OUT
You can pass another skier or snowboarder provided that he/she is given sufficient space for both controlled and uncontrolled movements. It is forbidden to drive straight downhill, except for organized training.
  • STARTING, DRIVING INTO OR TURNING
UP THE DOWNSlope If you are driving into, or turning up a slope, you must ensure that this happens without danger to yourself or others. The same applies to driving after stopping.
  • STOP ON THE Descent
Unless absolutely necessary, avoid stopping on the descent in narrow places or places with limited visibility. After falling in such a place, you must move away as quickly as possible.
  • ON FOOT IN THE Descent
If you are on foot, you must only use the outer edges of the hill.
  • RESPECT SIGNS AND MARKINGS
    Follow signs, markings and instructions
  • HELP IN ACCIDENTS
In the event of injuries, every skier or snowboarder has a duty to help.
  • IDENTIFICATION

Take Care of Children in the Ski Area

At Beitostølen Skiheiser, safety is always our top priority – but a safe experience is something we create together.

Statens jernbanetilsyn reminds us that while the ski resort is responsible for safe operations, guests must follow instructions and act responsibly. Many lift-related incidents happen simply because basic safety advice is not followed.

Here are our most important recommendations for families visiting the ski area:

Pay Close Attention to Children on Chairlifts

Children require extra supervision on chairlifts.

Please remember:

  • Make sure the child sits fully back in the seat
  • Lower the safety bar immediately
  • Clearly signal the lift operator if you need assistance
  • Be prepared to help the child when boarding
  • Do not take more children than you are able to supervise properly

If a child does not manage to get properly seated, let the child slide off immediately before the chair rises high above the ground.

Ask our staff for assistance – we are here to help you.

Ride Straight in Surface Lifts

Zigzagging in T-bar or platter lifts can lead to serious situations.

  • Ride straight
  • Keep a steady distance
  • Avoid unnecessary movements

Falling in a surface lift may cause the cable to derail. There are strong forces involved, and this can be dangerous.

Exit at the Marked Unloading Area

Always exit where it is clearly marked.

Getting off too early or at the wrong place may cause the T-bar or platter to swing and hook onto you, other guests, or equipment. This can create hazardous situations.

Avoid Loose Straps and Hanging Equipment

Loose straps, suspenders, backpacks, or clothing can get caught in the lift.

  • Secure all equipment properly
  • Make sure nothing hangs loosely

In worst-case scenarios, this can lead to serious incidents.

Dress for the Cold

If a lift stops, waiting time can be long.

You must be dressed to sit still for up to two hours on very cold days. Wear extra layers, warm mittens, and a good hat – especially for children.

We Create Safety Together

Our lift operators and staff are attentive and ready to assist anyone who needs help. There will always be clear signage for boarding and unloading areas.

If you notice anything missing or unclear, please let us know – we appreciate your feedback.

Ski Joy – Built on Safety

We want everyone visiting Beitostølen Skiheiser to return home with great memories. With a little extra attention to children and simple safety precautions, you help ensure a safe and enjoyable day on the slopes.

Welcome to the mountains – and take care of each other.
